Monasticism

July 11 was the day the Church commemorates the life of Saint Benedict of Nursia -- the father of western monasticism. His ethos of an ordered, sustainable and corporate way of Christian discipleship has benefited many Christians. In his book, Monk Habits for everyday people, Dennis Okholm concurs with my own influence with this monumental disciple of Christ. Notably, the Benedictine way has shaped Anglicanism especially in its manner of prayer book worship centered in daily office and weekly eucharist. Finally, in the American landscape that is so fractured within the walls of the church, Benedcit offers some clues for how to re-engage with the gospel of the good news of Jesus Christ.
